What is LNS? (KB233)

Question Detail

What is LNS?

Solution

LNS stands for LonWorks Network Services and is a control network operating system for Windows base computers. It supports client/server applications as well as stand alone ones.
Among its many functions, LNS allows a computer to provide a broad range of services over LonWorks networks. These services include network management, system design/commissioning, and system-wide monitoring/control.

There are numerous application programs, like LonMaker for Windows, that are built on top of LNS and take advantage of its services.

See http://www.echelon.com/lns for more information on LNS and a list of available LNS based tools, and http://www.echelon.com/plugins for a list of currently available LNS Plug-ins.
