You can transfer the LonScanner FX from a source computer to a target computer. The source computer is where the license is currently located. The target computer is where the license will end up. T
To make this happen, you need to start the transfer on the target computer (step 1), then move to the source computer (step 2), and finally complete the transfer on the target computer (step 3). You must follow the steps in this order for a successful transfer. You can use any media to transfer the license, but the typical choice is a empty USB flash drive. To transfer your LonScanner license from a source computer to a target computer using a USB flash drive, follow these steps:
Step 1
Prepare the target computer to receive the LonScanner license. Be sure to complete steps (a) through (k) on the target computer before moving on to Step 2.
(a) If you have not yet installed the LonScanner software on the target computer, install it now as described in Installing LonScanner Software in the LonScanner™ FX Protocol Analyzer User’s Guide
(b) Insert the USB drive into a USB port on the target computer.
(c) Open a Windows Command Prompt window and enter the following command (change the d: drive to the drive letter of the USB drive from step 1 (b)):
checkLic lpa.exe>d:\LNSLic1.txt
If Windows reports an error, such as "The system cannot find the path specified," remove and re-insert the USB drive, check the drive letter, and repeat the step.
(d) Click Start, point to Programs or All Programs, point to Echelon LonScanner FX Protocol Analyzer, and then click LonScanner FX License Transfer Activation Wizard.
(e) Click Next.
(f) Click Step 1. Prepare New Computer to Receive License and then click Next.
(g) Perform any actions requested by the License Transfer Utility.
(h) When prompted to select a drive, select the USB drive you inserted in step and then click Next.
(i) Click Finish.
(j) Safely remove the USB drive. For example, on a Vista system you can double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the notification area, click the USB drive, and then click Stop. Wait for Windows to tell you when the USB drive can be removed, and then remove it.
Step 2
Transfer the LNS license out of the source computer. Be sure to complete all of the tasks in Step 1 on the target computer before moving to Step 2 on the source computer.
(a) Insert the USB drive into a USB port on your source computer.
(b) Open a Windows Command Prompt window and enter the following command (change the d: drive to the drive letter of the USB drive from step 2 (a)):
checkLic lpa.exe>d:\LNSLic2.txt
If Windows reports an error such as "The system cannot find the path specified," remove and re-insert the USB drive, check the drive letter, and repeat this step.
(c) Click Start, point to Programs or All Programs, point to Echelon LonScanner FX Protocol Analyzer, and then click LonScanner FX License Transfer Activation Wizard.
(d) Click Next.
(e) Click Step 2. Transfer License Out of Old Computer and then click Next.
(f) When prompted to select a drive to transfer the license to, select the USB drive you inserted in Step 2 (a) and then click Finish.
(g) Safely remove the USB drive. See Step 1 for details.
Step 3
Transfer the LNS license into the target computer. Make sure you have completed all of the tasks in Step 1 and Step 2 before starting Step 3.
(a) Insert the USB drive into a USB port on the target computer.
(b) Open a Windows Command Prompt window and enter the following command (change the d: to the drive letter of the USB drive from Step 3 (a)):
checkLic lpa.exe>d:\LNSLic3.txt
If Windows reports an error such as "The system cannot find the path specified," remove and re-insert the USB drive, check the drive letter, and then repeat this step.
(c) Click Start, point to Programs or All Programs, point to Echelon LonScanner FX Protocol Analyzer, and then click LonScanner FX License Transfer Activation Wizard.
(d) Click Next.
(e) Click Step 3. Transfer License into New Computer and then click Next. The License Transfer Utility now transfers the license to the target computer.
